Oakland CA City Council Dioxin Resolution

This 1999 model Resolution was passed by the Oakland City Council in CA and designated dioxin pollution as a high priority for immediate action to protect public health. It encouraged the elimination of dioxin sources by establishing a government regional task force and urged health care institutions to reduce PVC use and eventually become PVC-free. It also called on the City to promote less-toxic, non-chlorinated sustainable products and processes such as chlorine-free paper and PVC-free plastics.

After the Oakland resolution passed, the cities of San Francisco, Berkeley and Palo Alto, and Marin County, all passed similar resolutions and a Task Force was created by the Association of Bay Area Governments to launch the Bay Area Dioxins project.

For information on the Task Force’s implementation of these resolutions visit their website here. Go to their "Final Report and Project Materials" section, which includes helpful dioxin purchasing resources.
