Is Target toxic?
A green crew from the Wetlands Activism Collective dons Hazmat suits to protest the retail giant’s use of toxic PVC products and packaging outside Atlantic Terminal in Downtown Brooklyn.
The rally was part of a 200-store-wide protest on the day of the company’s annual shareholders meeting.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), commonly known as vinyl, is a hazardous material utilized in packaging and products, such as children’s toys, teething rings, shower curtains and shampoo bottles. Its use and disposal releases chemicals that can cause serious health and environmental problems.
According to the group, while companies, such as Wal-Mart, Nike, Microsoft, Ikea, H&M and Johnson & Johnson, are phasing out their use of PVC, Target “continues to refuse despite requests from over 40,000 consumers and 60 health and environmental organizations.”
