Superfund "Chicken" Tax Action: The
calendar also lists some groups delivering a bucket of chicken to
the offices of U.S. Senators who voted against polluter pay principle
in 2004. This highlights that one of the Superfund fees needing
reinstatement (corporate environmental tax) is only $12.00 per $10,000
in profit--or the price of a bucket of chicken.
19 Unfunded Sites in FY 2004 -
EPA list of 19 unfunded sites in 13 states for Fiscal Year 2004. These
sites were ready for cleanup construction last year, but did not
receive funds from the ailing Superfund to start cleanups. Sites are
located in CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, LA, MT, NJ, NH, PA, TX and VT. Additional 15 Unfunded Sites in FY 2004
- Fifteen more sites in 2004 were also unfunded, but were still in the
design phase as of EPA's Sept. 2004 report, so the agency listed these
unfunded sites as "not ready" for construction. These sites are in AR,
CA, CO, DE, GA, MA, NJ, NH, PA, TN, TX & UT. Note:
EPA's website list of 29 Unfunded 2004 Sites includes the same sites in
the above more detailed lists (combined total of 34 listed sites). The
difference in numbers is due to EPA separating out 3 sites into 5
additional "operable units" or different remedial areas at the site. For More Information: Please contact: Lois Gibbs, CHEJ Executive Director, lgibbs@chej.org or 703-237-2249 X15. Click here for list of 2004 Senators voting against Superfund "polluter pays principle.
