SUPERFUND 25TH ANNIVERSARY REPORT RELEASED

A national report, The 25th Anniversary of Superfund, America's Safety Net in Crisis, was released on September 29, 2005.  It is available below in three sections.

1) 25th Anniversary of Superfund Report (pdf) - 10 page narrative includes Executive Summary and Superfund's History, Financial Foundation and Funding Shortfall.

2) Superfund Site Profile  (pdf) - One page site  profiles for every state in the country, and Puerto Rico.

3) Appendices (pdf) - Includes U.S. PIRG State-by-State Taxpayer Impact Chart, Superfund Budget History Chart, and State-by-State List of all Superfund Sites 1980 to 2005.

See below for list of Unfunded Sites in FY 2004.

Click here for Calendar of State Media Activities:  Media events and news releases are being held in 42 states on September 29th.  Many events will be held at Superfund sites profiled in the report.

Superfund "Chicken" Tax Action: The calendar also lists some groups delivering a bucket of chicken to the offices of U.S. Senators who voted against polluter pay principle in 2004. This highlights that one of the Superfund fees needing reinstatement (corporate environmental tax) is only $12.00 per $10,000 in profit--or the price of a bucket of chicken.

19 Unfunded Sites in FY 2004 - EPA list of 19 unfunded sites in 13 states for Fiscal Year 2004.  These sites were ready for cleanup construction last year, but did not receive funds from the ailing Superfund to start cleanups.  Sites are located in CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, LA, MT, NJ, NH, PA, TX and VT.

Additional 15 Unfunded Sites in FY 2004 - Fifteen more sites in 2004 were also unfunded, but were still in the design phase as of EPA's Sept. 2004 report, so the agency listed these unfunded sites as "not ready" for construction. These sites are in AR, CA, CO, DE, GA, MA, NJ, NH, PA, TN, TX & UT.   Note: EPA's website list of 29 Unfunded 2004 Sites includes the same sites in the above more detailed lists (combined total of 34 listed sites).  The difference in numbers is due to EPA separating out 3 sites into 5 additional "operable units" or different remedial areas at the site.
